General Conference 2004

Rocky Mountain Conference News and Resources

Day 8

Greetings and thoughts from General Conference, Monday, May 3rd

"There is so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us, that it doesn't behoove any of us to talk about the rest of us." -- Mama Irene, Gil Caldwell's maternal grandmother

It was a pleasurable Saturday evening at the Methodist Federation for Social Action where Rev. Gil Caldwell was recognized for his remarkable social justice ministry by receiving the Ball Award. To top off the evening, the Montana Logging & Ballet Company performed to a full house.

Today's morning worship was led by Bishop Hae Jong Kim, 1st Korean Bishop to serve as General Conference worship leader.

We have begun plenary action on the reports from legislative committees. This morning we approved a Concordat Agreement with the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico and signed the agreement tonight making it official.

A highlight of the day was the celebration of the 135th birthday of United Methodist Women. Current Women's Division Officers were introduced as well as several past presidents.

Dinner time found us eating together as the Denver Area with Bishop & Mrs. Brown with approximately 50 persons in attendance. It was good to fellowship with friends from Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone and our Iliff students.

This General Conference is filled with requests for the Judicial Council to make rulings and interpretations of the Discipline. Today's request was to determine if it is a pastoral chargeable offense when apportionments are not paid in full. Stay tuned for further details.

Sleepily,
Judy Hill
