General Conference 2004
Rocky Mountain Conference News and Resources
Day 4
Thursday, April 29, 2004
From clergy delegate Aaron Gray, reporting on the
activities of April 29 (day 3 or 4 depending on when you start counting):
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ. It is a pleasure to be able
to report on behalf of my brothers and sisters who make up the
Rocky Mountain delegation.
We all share a common feeling that it is a joy to represent the
Conference on what is a crucial moment in the life of our United
Methodist Church.
As I reflect on this third day of the conference, we began with
an inspiring sermon by Bishop Nkulu Ntanda Ntambo in the area of
The Congo. His sermon was filled with appreciation for what the United
Methodist Chuirch has done in Africa including the growth and development
of African University.
The word of God is being spread in Africa and as a result of this
mission and ministry many are coming to know Christ. Bishop Ntando
challenged us not to rest on these accomplishments but through reflecting
on Psalm 111 he shared that the fear (love) of the Lord is to please
God.
Sandy Lackore from the General Council on Finance and Administration
provided a report that outlined the financial state of the church.
It was a mixed report in that our budget was frozen before the Conference
and already there are 67 million that are before the conference as
unfunded requests. Ms. Lackore challenged the Conference to examine
our priorities to refocus on what is our core and to decide where
we are headed. The rest of the day and all of the evening will be
spent in committees where we are working on the petitions that have
been submitted to the Coinference.
The process is very slow but when you consider that the work and
decisions made here will shape the vision of mission and ministry
for the next four years, we should not be in a hurry.
Please continue to pray for the conference and your delegates and
most of all pray for God's plan and will to be the guide for our
work.
Peace,
Aaron Gray
