Final Word from Planning Team

Friends,

It is nearly time for you to pile in the car and head for Snow Mountain Ranch for the 2006 Orders Retreat. As usual, a good deal of thoughtful planning has gone into making this event happen, and the Design Team is very much looking forward to its coming to fruition. If you are registered and ready to go, thank you. If you are not registered it is still not too late! Just get online and fill out the form on the Conference website, then bring your payment with you.

Here you will find the schedule for our time together. I want to point out a couple of changes this year from schedules past. One concerns our free time, the other our gatherings as Orders and Fellowship. Note that worship will once again be held in the Chapel, with van transportation available for anyone not confident about making the fifteen minute walk up there from our other venues.

You’ll notice that free time on Wednesday afternoon doesn’t begin until 3:30. While this limits the daylight hours on your own, we have attempted to compensate by making both evenings, Tuesday and Wednesday, more flexible and open for setting your own agenda. You’ll notice that interesting and fun activities are scheduled Wednesday afternoon and each evening, but these events are intentionally optional and informal. (YMCA Activities.)

The second change is a slightly extended time spent in our Deacon, Elder, and Local Pastor gatherings on Thursday morning. This is in response to requests from years past, so that we can perhaps accomplish a bit more during this time.

A few people will be joining us for all or part of the retreat and bringing information that may be of interest to you. We are pleased to announce that David Trickett, clergy colleague and new President of Iliff School of Theology, will be joining us. Felicia George of The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado will also be around to meet you and answer questions about that organization. In addition, Linda and Carl Gardner will be present from the United Methodist Foundation to discuss with you the new tax benefit related to parishioners’ contributions from IRAs. And don’t forget to bring your Cokesbury card!

Finally, a word about registration and check-out. Registration will happen at Indian Peaks Lodge beginning by 11 a.m. Tuesday. If you are late in arriving you may need to register at the main desk of the Administration building. Details for check-out will be shared during the event, but be prepared to pack up and have your belongings out of your room before we begin on Thursday morning. There is another event beginning that evening and Snow Mt. Ranch needs to clean the rooms.

That’s enough for now. Everyone please drive safely and hold one another in prayer as we gather.

Peace,
Your Design Team
